I've always had a hard time with Vintersorg, the band, not the person. Some of the music they've released has been really good and then some of it has been quite boring and stale in my ears. Though no matter what category the albums has been in, the albums have always been deep and demanding for the listener, not something you can give a single spin, and be comfortable with, no they have always demanded some work and full dedication from the listener.

This album is quite surprising as Vintersorg once again incorporates raw and grim black metal into his progressive folk metal, both musically with ugly and cold guitars and harsh rhythm patterns and with his harsh and eerie black metal screech. The song writing is great as the transitions from the organic and open music with clean and soft vocals, acoustic guitars and other instruments goes naturally into the blackness and back again, very good work and a nice variation of the songs and music.

The musicians have great skills and show them during this album, though the songs are driven by the epic atmospheres and great flow in the songs, even with the black metal parts, the whole deal is very organic and flowing, pretty music that opens up for emotions and gives room for a lot thoughts to flow, and of course a great musical experience. The good music together with the organic and very open production makes a damn good album, that can be heard again and again without it becomes boring, the more you listen to it, the more details you'll find and the deeper you’ll get below the surface of Vintersorg, the musical ideas and the lyrical content, 3 things that goes hand in hand and open up for a greater whole.
