The prime merchants of brutal melodic death/thrash HateSphere, is now ready with their new album, the long awaited "Serpent Smiles And Killer Eyes", 9 tracks of smashing HateSpheric metal.

It seems like the band has matured a bit, the music seems more well weighed and thought through, the shifts between the fierce and aggressive pieces and the moshing parts are smoother than before, and the hardcore in your face aggressiveness, that has been a big part of some of the earlier records, has been down toned as well, we don't get that much spitting spite from Jacob Bredahl anymore, we get more of his tortured version of a growl/scream, which is both good and bad, I at least enjoyed his hardcore vocal tendencies a lot.

The band has also started to incorporate atmospheric, almost epic parts into their songs, just check out the middle section of 'Forever War' or the last track on the album 'Absolution' that almost has the epic feel and atmosphere worthy of a Hypocrisy song. A great development of the music, which really gives HateSphere a great bottom to work with in the future, the band has started to become diverse as hell, a positive step.

Tue Madsen is the man behind the mix of "Serpent Smiles And Killer Eyes" and screamer Jacob Bredahl is credited for the production. The sound is doing HateSphere a lot of justice and pushes the music through the speakers, heavy and raw but still clear so all details can be caught.

Even after a lot of spins, this album haven't become my personal favourite HateSphere album, that said this is still a classy album, with a lot to offer, and I find a lot of their new elements intriguing, especially the heavy and dark atmospheres, that enter the sound picture here and there. This is HateSphere as we know them, both good and evil, yet a strong, but a bit surprising album from their site, heavier, brutal and laid back, but still melodic, in your face and captive, heavy melodic death thrashing madness, there you go!
