I might have been a bit thrown off when I first saw the title of the new God Dethroned album, the album title screams "socially aware lyrical content", something hardcore bands do well, and not a thing for Dutch melodic death metal masters. Though after the first listen it was clear that God Dethroned still smashes me around with their blend of melodic death metal and more aggressive thrashing madness, with a bit of grooving modern elements in the mix though.

So as you might can read out of the above, a natural continuation of the last album "The Lair Of The White Worm", a good blend of older God Dethroned, as in the melodic pieces, grandiose and sweeping and the fast aggressive parts. And of course the more grooving and modern elements, though they are well-weighed and doesn't get too much space, so a fine blend of old and new God Dethroned, the band sound like they did years ago, just fine-tuned and in overdrive, the band has actually progressed very well through the years when reflecting over it! When the groover of an intro is done, we get hurled into one of the better and more aggressive tracks 'Hating Life', which also is one of the more modern sounding and groovy ones on the album. That track takes us to my fave track on the album '2014' a futurist epic, that together with the other epic 'On Wings Of Pestilence' makes the album a goodie for me, 2 really strong tracks with killer melodies, amazing atmospheres, awesome musicianship and song writing and Sattler's vocals as we remember it from the grand pieces on "Bloody Blasphemy", such songs are in my opinion God Dethroned when they are best!

This is yet a strong and diverse album the Dutchmen have released, following the style of the last album well, taking the old 'classic' God Dethroned deeds mixing them with more modern influences and getting a strong result from it, a must have for God Dethroned fans just for the 2 tracks '2014' and 'On The Wings Of Pestilence', bands that can make such songs are not many!
