The thrash scene is really on the rise, especially Norway has been producing some quite good bands lately, one of the new bands on the rise is Harm, which now is ready with their debut full length album "Devil", 10 tracks of well-played and quite hard-hitting thrash metal.
There are a good deal of grooves present in the music, that together with some good and hooking parts makes it easy to get into the music, and makes the music stick quite fast. There are some good guitar riffs spread around the album, some good leads and solos as well, I especially like the solo in 'Harm Unleashed' on top of the chugging rhythm, a nice contrast. The music is a good blend of old, straight ahead biting thrash mixed with more modern grooves and hooks, and an insane growled scream delivering the lyrics.
Harm has a solid as fuck rhythm section and, the rhythm guitar, bass and drums play really well together and make a really heavy bottom for the topping. The drumming is also varied quite well, nice use of all the drums and the cymbals, and some good rhythm patterns. Followed well by the heavy bass and the fierce rhythm guitar.
Fans of traditional thrash spiced up with brutality and groove will dig this album a lot. I think of the heavier and newer Testament albums, when listening to this, without "Devil" getting close to reach the same level, but the same approach in terms of being modern and technical, without loosing touch to the good old days of thrash. A good and solid debut album Harm has made, and it gives appetite for what the band will bring in the future, they have the means in terms of musicianship and ideas, they just need the last notch in making the songs stand more out from each other. I am certain of we will hear a lot more to Harm, sooner than later!
