Dark Domination hails from Latvia and delivers cold and melodic black metal. This is my first encounter with the band, even though it is their third full length album. A well executed exhibition of how black metal can sound, without being powered by synth or ugly and raw as hell.

The first thing that springs to mind, is the very well-written songs, they catches on really quick and keep on pushing themselves onto the listener, even when the album has stopped playing. Besides that the album is full of great and well delivered melodies, they are dark, cold, mysterious and gripping and carry the music a long way. Those melodies together with the dark and sinister atmosphere make out a really good album. On top of that the album has haunting atmosphere, which covers the music as a thick fog and induces the right impression onto the listener. At times an epic and almost melancholic atmosphere enters the sound picture as well, and that is a quite good feature too.

As written the compositions are well made and suck the listener into them, and keep the attention hooked throughout the duration of the album. There are good hooks, good main riffs and of course the already mentioned melodies. The rhythm section is also good, the drums deliver some good patterns and solid play and the bass rumbles below the wall of guitars. The vocals are presented well, a harsh rasp, cutting into bones and marrow and delivering the messages cold and straight on.

"Rebellion 666" is a good and solid album by the Latvians. Atmospheric and melodic black metal without it in any way becomes nice or cosy to listen to, that is how we like it! And as a special treat on the track 'War March Against Christianity' the band has borrowed Bãrbals from Auļi, who delivers bagpipes, a great addition that gives a lot of atmosphere. On the bonus track 'Edasi, Saatana Lapsed!' is Lembetu from the amazing band Loits delivering vocals. If you are on the look for some solid melodic black metal with a lot of atmosphere with some great artwork to accompany the release, this is it.
