It was indeed great news when rumors started to circulate, telling that Deranged had returned to business, and even better news when drummer extraordinaire Rikard Wermén confirmed the news and published that the band was working on new material. The Swedish merchants of brutal death/grind has now returned, to wreak havoc upon us lost souls with their new effort "Obscenities In B-Flat", continuing the legacy from the first 5 semi-classic full length albums.
The impact of Deranged has always equalled the impact of being hit right on by a speeding freight train. An enormous wall of grinding guitars is being spit out the speakers, the riffs are effective and raw, they rip in the ears and push the music forward with an impressive momentum. The riffing is greatly varied by wicked leads and ripping and wicked solos. The drumming is brutal and slaying as well, a furious kick drum attack, a blasting snare and crashing cymbals all over. Though the drumming is very varied and great and Wermén shows us all his chops, a very good performance and killer drumming. The growl is guttural and grim, brutal and sick, fitting the music and expression of Deranged very well. Again a varied performance, going from slow and drenched growls, to fast and spitting growling.
The sound the album has does also embrace the musical expression very well. Deranged has never been on the clean and sterile production bandwagon, the production on this album is heavy and well-balanced, with a very raw and dirty edge, which compliments the music very well and gives it an evil and insane aura.
Deranged has yet again delivered the goods. A brutal and slaying piece of grinding death metal, which for sure will satisfy the hordes of fans the band has. One of the most furious and varied the band so far has made, and the band seems very vital, energetic and ready to continue the killing, I think we have many more great albums in wait from Deranged!
