The French symphonic black metallers Anorexia Nervosa has released this little goodie, so their fans can get something nice to listen to, until the band is ready with their next full length album. Even though they call the release an EP, it consists of 45+ minutes of music. We don't get any new songs, what we get are a remix of 'Sister September' from the band's latest album "Redemption Process", 3 cover tracks and 4 live songs.

The "Director's Cut Mix" of 'Sister September' isn't that far off the original, still a good piece of music, displaying all the features of the band. A good deal of symphonic black metal, good riffing, nice melodies and a lot of atmosphere. The 3 cover tracks are interesting as well, I only know one of the original songs though, the other 2 bands have never crossed my path. The songs Anorexia Nervosa has chosen to cover are 'La Chouanne' by Forbidden Site, 'Quintessence' by Darkthrone and 'I'll Kill You' by X-Japan. The band transforms the tunes pretty well into their own, and adds the special Anorexia Nervosa atmosphere to the tracks. The Darkthrone song is pretty close to the original, though the Frenchmen has accomplished to taint it towards their own sound, nice work.

The 4 live tunes we get delivered are also well done, the band seems ignited on the stage and delivers their music with a lot of energy and passion, and the audience seems to be into it. It are the 4 tracks 'The Shining', 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa', 'Worship Manifesto' and 'Le Portail De La Vierge' we get delivered. The live sound is good, it is somewhat raw, and some details drowns here and there, though the band do still get their message through.

This is nice little deal for the fans of Anorexia Nervosa, we are getting some good tracks and some nice covers. Even people that don't know the band can pick up here, as the 'Sister September' version is damn good and addictive and shows Anorexia Nervosa from their best side, together with the live tracks. I'm sure a lot of fans will find this quite long mini album enjoyable and useful.
