The Giuntini project has now reached its third release. The band lead by the good Italian shredder Aldo Giuntini, a man who hasn't been that much in the spotlight, considering his abilities with the 6 strings. As it was the case with the second album, released back in 1998, Aldo has called upon the talents of the British singer Tony Martin, which many of you will recognize from his time in Black Sabbath (He sang on "The Eternal Idol", "Headless Cross", "Tyr", "Cross Purposes" and "Forbidden". The team of Giuntini and Martin seems strong and able of delivering some good sounding music.

The band is delivering melodic heard rock, with the main focus on the lead guitar and Martin's vocals, and that is as such more than a fair weighting. As the compositions are pretty standard and doesn't offer that much excitement, all the excitement are in the guitar play from Giuntini and the vocals from Martin.

Giuntini is a classical inspired guitarist, a thing that is easy to catch when listening to his leads. They are classy, clean and not that fast, he doesn't play with speed, but mostly with passion. He can shred fast when he feels like it, though most of the leads and the solos are delivered in a passionate and catchy pace, a thing that seldom is heard now a days, as it seems technique equals speed for many guitarists.

Martin delivers his vocals great on the album, his smooth melodic voice fits the Giuntini Project's hard rock world really well. He lifts the music a good deal and makes it somewhat more interesting. And a weaker vocalist would easily have drowned in the music, as much of it could work as instrumental pieces, due to all the lead guitar play going on all the time.

The force of the band is Giuntini and Martin, the 2 names the album is sold on. The weak side is the very traditional song writing, this is traditional rock in the sense of traditional. The compositions could easily have been made more interesting and breathtaking. Though as it is now, the only things keeping the music alive is the lead guitar and the vocals. Fans who miss good old traditional rock, will embrace this album no doubt about that, but for others "III" might be a bit tough to swallow. I am enjoying the vocals and guitars a lot, but I miss something that really kicks it off into orbit and makes it flow!

Rating: 5½/10
