Yet a band I have my first encounter with, and yet a band that gets a European release, through the cooperation between Abacus Recordings and Century Media. Ignite hails from Orange County, California, and is one of the bands that helped the punk/light-hardcore scene there get recognition. The band has been going strong since 1994, though this new album is their first release since year 2000 full length "A Place Called Home".
Ignite is delivering light punk infused with some heavier and more straight hardcore elements once in a while. A tougher version of Green Day might not be a bad description, even though Ignite doesn't have the same flair for catchy melodies and choruses as Green Day, so it never gets as pop-like.

The song writing is built upon catchy parts, a hooking vocal line or a catchy repeated riff-progression and that works decently. Though the band's approach to the music seems pretty standard for nowadays scene, this would have hit it off some 5 years ago, but today it becomes too dull to fast. After a few songs, it's like one has heard all before. The vocal patterns are very alike throughout the album, the riff progression seems based on the same patters a lot as well, and the pace shifts within the songs uses more or less same pattern as well.

This album is mediocre all the way through, the music is very light and easily digestible, after very few listens the album becomes boring, as the music is very predictable. Though I’m sure the ones who miss the old days' Green Day, The Offspring and the likes can dig into this and enjoy jumping around while screaming together with Zoli Teglas. The band might have a good deal of political messages to get out, though I don't think they’ll hit they core they are aiming at with this release. Props up for the cover version of U2's 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' though, a decent version of it, and cool to get the song back in rotation amongst a new audience. If you're deeply into melodic punk/rock with a slight touch of hardcore, then you'll dig this, if not, you better stay away.

Rating: 4/10
