We have now reached the ninth full length album from these Finnish madmen, and this is an album I have been looking very much forward to, after the superb "All That You Fear" from 2003. The band had a small revival with the 2003 album, after a bit of a "dead" period, where they lacked the insanity, which painted their earlier material, though that did return with quite a revenge, and we aren't spared for any insanity on this album as well.
The band takes the music a further step back compared to "All That You Fear" and blends a good deal of blasting death and black metal madness into the furious punky approach they have got. I can't help thinking of the first 3 aggressive, diverse and straight in your face albums, when I listen to this album. The music is relentless and just blasts away, with carefully selected breaks, good drum fills, ripping guitar solos and thundering bass parts. The band seems sharper than ever and full of energy, and that really paints the atmosphere of the music. On the same time that it's evil, dark and sinister, it's fresh, youthful and very energetic.
The songs are spiteful as always, with a good blend of blasphemic mockery, hate and pro-Finland hymns, as the title might suggest. The compositions are well-written and catch on immediately, especially if you already are into the world Of Impaled Nazarene, as several songs seems like continuations of earlier material. The way the band makes their older material go hand in hand with this new album, together with developing the music even further is amazing and a feast for all fans of the mad Finns.
This is a blastfest from the start to the end, with few well-placed moments to catch the breath. Impaled Nazarene is as sharp as ever and pummels straight out of the highway, without taking prisoners or showing any mercy. Brutal blackened death metal with a good dose of thrash and a punky attitude, the band as we know it and like it.
