One of the giants of Danish rock has returned, Fate is back, not only back, they are back with an album putting them back on the top of melodic hard rock, there can't be many doubts about that. Many of the old bands within melodic rock/AOR/hard rock have returned the latter years, not all as successful as in their heydays, as such comebacks are tough and have a lot of fans in limbo. Though "V" doesn’t need many spins to convince the listener about its qualities, which are many.

Where to start? Let's take the amazing songs, the songwriting is top notch, the music catches on as soon as play is pushed. There are many many blistering and catchy guitar melodies, always painting the atmosphere together with the great vocals and making the songs flow really well. There are many well used hooks as well, it is not possible to get lost within the world of "V", there are always a guiding-line ready. There is much good guitar work on the album, not that flashy, but very effective and well-played melodies, well-crafted and more than well-performed, though we aren't cheated for the killer solos, as such albums as this needs, a little show off, of Søren Hoff's skills are present here and there, a great six-stringer. The album is produced by Tommy Hansen, and that equals a huge and heavy sound with a good focus on all the details. This brings us to the bass, delivered by Peter Steincke, which really can be followed throughout the album, due to the detailed production. The play is well-weighed, powerful and very driving, it has a good grip on the rhythm and keeps a good groove as the bottom of the music. The rhythms and paces are well varied and the drums do their job as expected and work really well together with both the guitar and the bass.

The vocals have always been an important part of this genre, as they are the ones that really catch the ears, with smooth and powerful melodies and catchy choruses, and a powerful and strong vocal is what Per Johansson delivers on this album, an absolutely superb performance. It is very hard not to be carried away by the powerful performance, and often is one left in awe, due to the ways Per is twisting his vocals, to match the guitar-melodies, amazing vocals, which are growing each time one listens to them. Together with the vocals, go his good lyrics, which many might be able to familiarize themselves with, which also is a big plus, who can't relate to songs as 'Everything About You' and 'Burned Child', just to pick out 2..

If you should be in doubt, the comeback album from Fate has more than passed its exam. The band is back with a lot of power and strength and is for sure ready to take on the world. This is melodic hard rock with punch and energy, a breathtaking lecture in how to do melodic hard rock with many dimensions.
