Straight from the vast and dark Canada comes V.A.C.K., as the clever reader might have figured out stands for Vinland Anti Christian Kommando. And as the name may suggest, this is black metal of the kind that will make the weak-hearted crawl away, faster than ants from their nest on fire. This release consists of the band's 2 first demos, the first selftitled one and the second entitled "Haine Éternelle".

We are offered pretty traditional old school black metal on this release, nothing that much out of the ordinary. Though the band creates some amazing dark and sinister atmospheres, which makes one feel desolate, all alone in a big dark room, while a furious wind blazes through large empty halls, ripping in one, trying to carry one away to a place, which seems uncomfortable and painful. Incredible that such a picture can be painted by simple riffing, a raw and distorted guitar, a noisy bass keeping a rhythm and hellish drumming. The music is structured very simple, but is hard-hitting and quite captivating. All due to the crushing atmosphere, which is flowing from the speakers as a thick fog, one can't escape. The ugly scream that assaults one time after time, is also a factor of discomfort and gives an extra dimension to the dark and wicked universe of V.A.C.K.

These 2 demos do not show a band on their way to revolutionise the black metal society, though a band who knows their roots and are proud of them and wants to bring them back. A task that V.A.C.K. does very well, this is black metal the way many of us like to hear it, without any influences of the past 10 years, the pure darkness of cold distorted melodies, noisy mainriffs, a healthy beating of the snare-drum and an open hi-hat, a noisy bass and a raw passionate scream. A raw production that isn't noisy to be noisy, but noisy to accomplish a slightly chaotic and colder atmosphere, which it does. I'm sure this band will create some noise and attention in the future.
