The Danish band Pyramaze, which are marketed as American, even though only the singer and keyboarder are American and the rest Danes, the founder and main-songwriter are even among the Danes. Though I guess Lance King and Jonah Weingarten sells better than names as Michael Kammeyer, Morten Gade Sørensen, Niels Kvist and Toke Skjønneman. But let us leave that and concentrate on Pyramaze's new album "Legend Of The Bone Carver", a concept album, delivering 10 tracks of atmospheric and melodic power metal.

One is magnetized from the start of this album, the right atmosphere is present from the start and stays with the album throughout the 10 tracks presented on it. The song writing is good and there is a great flow in between the tracks and it is all kept well together by an invisible red thread. The songs are catchy as well and they all posses good hooks, both riff- and vocal-wise. The guitar play is balanced, there are some good heavy riffs, great melodic riffing, nice leads and good technical play. There seldom is a boring moment, though the guitars never lose the good song out of sight. The keyboards are present in the sphere of the music a lot of the time, and they adds a lot to the final product, they aren't overused or overpowered, they are mostly behind the guitars and weaves their wicked play there and spellbinds us. The bass is audible all the way through the album, the deep rumbling can be followed all the time, in the well-balanced and clear production, which still is quite heavy. The sound is made by Jacob Hansen and he has excelled himself with this production. The drumming from Morten Sørensen is solid as usual and always fitting. For each recording from his side, he more and more establish himself as a diverse and killer skinsman. The vocals are none the less magnificent, as expected. Lance has through the years established himself as a killer vocalist and on this album he once again delivers the goods and takes us all on a journey. The vocals are always fitting, no matter how the mood of the music is and adds another dimension to the world of Pyramaze.

I haven't listened a lot to the first Pyramaze release "Melancholy Beast", so I didn't expect that much of this album, though got what I expected and a good deal more. Well-written and -performed melodic power metal, great music and good vocals and a good story-line, which the band carries out really good. If you wants to be spellbound and carried away to another world, get this album in the player and close your eyes.

Rating: 8½/10
