This death metal band hailing from California is delivering death metal the way it is meant to be. Harsh, raw, brutal, straight forward and right in your face, hitting your ears like a ten ton hammer, showing no mercy. This CD is recorded as a duo and I have to say that drummer/vocalist Novy Harris and guitarist Paul Taylor have done a quite good job in transferring their vision of relentless death metal onto tape.
If you're looking for something new, this is the wrong record to pick up, though if you're looking for concrete-wrecking blastbeats, brutal and heavy guitar riffs, with a nice variation of disharmonic wickedness and some ripping solos and ear-blasting growls, this is your album. The guitar work is great, a bit chaotic at times, though that only underlines the brutal and no compromise atmosphere that dwells on the album. The atmosphere is wicked, evil and dark as the bowels of hell. The drumming is also good, the kick-drums get a severe beating and the snare-drum some sheer punishment, the paces are varied well and we are getting all from mid-tempo heaviness to blasting insanity. The heavy bass that shows its face once in a while is also good and suiting. The deep and guttural, combined with an evil shriek do also work good in the context of the music on "Decree Of The Dead".
It would be very easy to put tags as Immolation, Incantation and Morbid Angel on the music, as all 3 bands shine a lot through as inspirations. Though Reverted does deliver something of their own, in the blend they have made. The music is captivating from the first second, if you're into this brutal and noisy kind of death metal that is. For all us who likes our death metal as this, this album is a feast. As far as I know the band has turned into Angel Guts, which is quite a shame as I would have enjoyed more material with Reverted and I can't really understand why any labels didn't pick up this album, as it would have made a great impact with the right marketing tools, though if it was that easy, such might had happened. Time will tell if we'll hear more from Reverted, until then we have this album to accompany our rampage!
