Blizzard Winter - Imperivm
Release: 2005Label: Demo/self-released
The feeling of a blizzard does strike one as soon as the inferno of riffs are unleashed after the intro track. The compositions are good, they catches on to you pretty fast, and drags one into the web of darkness and freezing depths of horror. There are an eerie atmosphere haunting the tracks and that lift the music a bit. Due to the compositions being a bit to the standard side, there isn't much new to come after here, though the guitar riffs are magnificent and keep ones attention at the music throughout the 3 "real" tracks, which we are presented on the demo. The vocals are dark and sinister as the music, a deep guttural scream, in the same tone as the guitar more or less, which gives a good effect. It does also follow the melody pretty well and more or less fades together with the music and adds a nice cold feel to it. The drumming is on 2 tracks programmed, but still pretty good, their cold sound fits the music and atmosphere on the music well. Though the real drums on the last track, the 10 minute+ 'Ensaio 2004' is good and simple as well, and fitting.
This demo is not a revelation, though a good piece of cold and ravishing black metal. The band hits the right atmosphere and feel, delivers some really good guitar work and shows understanding for how to make a good and effective black metal tune, I am sure the future will bring us many good things from Blizzard Winter! So right now we only have to wait for the band's upcoming demo "Gateways To Rebellion", which soon should be released!
