The Tasmanian death metal maniacs in Psycroptic are now ready with their 3rd and so far most varied and brutal album, it's a tad more direct in your face and straight out brutal, compared to their last album "Scepter Of The Ancients", which had its share of epic moments. They are almost gone, and replaced by crushing brutality and amazing technical features.

This is a small revelation of technical and brutal death metal, we are served killer riffs, great leads, wicked melodies and quite neck-breaking guitar breaks. The drumming is as technical as the guitars, always shifting pace or rhythm, and the neck-breaking breaks, goes again here. Though the band is good at incorporating heavy and groovy hooks, which stick to ones mind, so we have a possibility to keep up and down apart. The vocals are usually a raspy bastard of a black metal scream and a growl, varied with a real guttural growl and a sick scream.

The band has been listening heavily to their former label mates on Unique Leader Records, no doubt about that, as there is a lot of influence from the more brutal and technical US death metal scene present on this album, than many ever would have thought the band would get into their music. Though Psycroptic incorporates it very well, with the basic sound of their own, to get a great and hard-hitting assault. The compositions are at once very technical and fast, and on the other side pretty catchy, a good treat, as the band borders to getting to fast and furious at times, though they have managed to contain themselves, and only pushes it to the limit, never over. The production might have a bit to do with it as well, it is well-weighed, heavy and still clear, but not too clinical and that adds a nice edge to it, without making it too raw and chaotic or too cold.

If you're into heavy and blasting death metal, this will quench your thirst for a week or 2. The band has taken on a slight other style than on the last couple of albums, as the epic moments more or less has been exchanged for brutality and technique, there are bits and pieces left of the atmospheres once in a while, though they do not shine as thoroughly through. Though the album is still very strong and ass-kicking, a killer of a death metal album.
