Rotten Sound - Exit
Release: 2004Label: Spinefarm Records
As with all grind releases, “Exit” boasts many short tracks. Fortunately, Rotten Sound has produced a feast-worthy album; in other words, the band’s latest is great and definitely deserves meticulous praise.
“Exit” aptly begins the record with an introduction, but the sound of a gun loading is seemingly the cue for the musicians to jump in: precise chaos ensues. The song ends with the sound of a gunshot. “Burden” is a frantic, agitated composition, and – by the time you search through “Exit” – you’ll find that most of the opuses are. Gripping double-bass arrives at the 1:20 minute mark, which should instantaneously trigger salivation. “Sell Your Soul” follows with “V.S.A.” trailing. Breakdowns in the latter are supremely enjoyable. “Follow” chases the aforementioned tracks, and is not really up to snuff with what we’ve heard before. “Maggots” is a thirty-six second fest, “Slave” is a minute longer than the former, and “Mass Suicide” trumps them both, length-wise. The riff at the 1:00 minute mark in “Soil” is definitely notable. “Nation” is a brilliant exemplification of Rotten Sound’s capabilities and talents. However, “XXI” is a far cry from any of the material on “Exit”; and, “Running Weak” is inexplicably long for this particular group, because it clocks in at four minutes and fifty-four seconds. Good, though. “Homicide” and “Oppression” are the last tracks.
I must say that Rotten Sound caught me off guard with this album. “Exit” is high in quality, and more than enough compositions convey that concept. So, eradicate any of the qualms you may have if you’re into grind whatsoever. Look for this when it comes out.
