From the first raw and distorted riff leaves the speakers, one are nailed in front of the sound-machine, getting blasted by the noisy manifesto Facedowninshit delivers here on their third full length album. The band blends punk, sludge, grind-like noise and a blues-like feel at times, and serves us 7 tracks filled with frustrations and anger.
This album is a soundtrack to get the frustrations out of the world, from the start to the end, the mesmerizing riffs, the always changing beats and rhythms, the ugly and harsh scream, keeps one hypnotized, yet rocking to the sounds from Facedowninshit. The band name describes the music pretty well, and the atmosphere they deliver, as well as the album title is very. The music does not apply to anyone though, this is music for the sludge and hatecore maniacs, no doubt about that, though they will for sure embrace this release with open arms, for fucks sake the band could have come straight of NOLA, and not Portland, Oregon, where they are based now, even though it all started in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The band displays some good noisy riffs, some good and quite intriguing song structures, with good details. There aren't many actual hooks, though there are some parts which are printed into the listener's mind, so the song-writing is effective and very hard-hitting. The bass work is good, distorted as hell, but gripping, noisy and ugly, and in the track 'Fucked', we get a glimpse of play as Cliff Burton could have made, a good tribute! The drumming is varied a lot, the patterns and beats are all over the place, and makes it all very interesting, good work indeed.
This has been my soundtrack to the past week, and it has worked well, a mind-blowing and straight in the face album, with a touch of blues, to give it the right mellow atmosphere at times, as in the end of 'Fucked', the track I already has mentioned. Give the album a spin, and you'll find the music a lot more positive than negative about the music!
