The Swedes are back to haunt us poor souls with a taste for ugly and hellraising black metal. There have been a bit of silence from the band, since the release of their latest album "Evoke The Desecrator" back in the end of 2003, though now they are back, stronger than ever it seems. As always we are treated raw, direct and hellish black metal, with a good dose of thrash in the mix.
The band has become better at writing strong songs. That has been an ongoing tendency since the first very raw and ugly demos. The music has also been calmed a bit down, don't get me wrong here, it is still full of hate and is furious as hell. Though the total madness that marked the early material, is not as noticeable now, which is a shame. Though the moments of madness that still are present, is much more effective and enjoyable, so that is a plus of course. There are some good hooks and good riffs present on this album, some killer leads and guitar solos, the amount and effect of the guitar solos are great, and most of them sounds really good. The rhythm section is also hardcore, a rumbling bass and punishing drums, the beats and rhythms are good, and the drumming is varied well and is fitting the music all the way through. The vocals are also straight in our faces as always, a harsh and raw scream, nightmare-inducing for the weak souls.
This attack is as expected, with a bit more to offer. The output is a bit more raw and furious than "Evoke The Desecrator", it’s more straight in the listener's face, creeping into the mind, and leaves ugly pictures behind. Technically and musically it is better as well, the band is becoming really good songwriters as well as good musicians. The material on the album is not that new though, it has been written for a while, though just materialized onto tape and disc now, so judging from the music on this album, it will be really interesting to hear, what the Swedes will come up with next, if they keep the progression going, together with keeping it ugly, old school and raw, some real treats are heading our way, that's for sure. This is by all means a very enjoyable and hard-hitting black-thrash attack from hell.
