It took me too long to sit down and give Norway's Jorn Lande a proper listen, but when it happened I was glad that I did, just as I am glad to have been able to sit and give his new disc "The Duke" a good listen. He quickly became a fixture in my list of favorite vocalists. This man's voice is truly amazing. When Mr. Lande has some free time from his main band Masterplan he works on solo albums, but these albums get the same amount of attention and care and can hold their own, without coming across as a space filler between Masterplan albums. "The Duke" starts up where 2004's "Out To Every Nation" left off, as usual Lande has surrounded himself with excellent musicians to accentuate his style, all of which give outstanding performances on the album.

Every track contained on this album is a solid hard rocking tune, the instruments play off of each other perfectly in a pure heavy metal/hard rock style. The bass and drums form a perfect backbone for the lead and rhythm guitars to lay their magic over, and of course it all forms a great foundation for Mr. Lande to lay his superb vocals over. It's a hard album to pick favorites from, though I can say the tracks I keep going back to are 'We Brought The Angels Down' and 'Black song'. 'Are You Ready' will be an instant favorite to those who prefer call-to-arms style anthems. Plenty of great choruses are to be found on this album, as well as tons of great melodies. "The Duke" is a classy heavy metal release that's for sure. The production is loud and clear, the way it should be for a release of this caliber. Each musician is able to let their playing shine through and every note be heard.

I'm not very fond of drawing comparisons within reviews but I must mention that at times there is a similarity between Lande's voice and that of David Coverdale, but with more of a youthful edge. If you are a fan of Lande you definitely do not want to miss out on this album as well as those who may not be familiar with him but are in search of a good solid vocalist to lend their ears to. Jorn Lande is well worth the effort, so get to hunting down his previous albums and "The Duke" as well!
