This Brazilian squadron was first active in the early nineties, before disbanding in 1998. The band released the debut mini album "Ultimate Encore" before calling it a day, together with playing more than 500 shows. The band got back together in 2004 and is now ready with this comeback miniCD, and by the sounds of that, Scars is a band that would have made an impact on the scene, if they had continued to play in 1998, though now they are back at again, and ready to conquer!

Musically the band is a bit divided, they really want to deliver old school and hard-hitting as fuck thrash, and they do that most of the time. They also like death metal, and that shines through once in a while as well, though the guitars are tuned as in the good old days of thrash, back then when it was hard to tell what was what, and that is where Scars win. Think US death and thrash metal in the mid 80ties up to the early 90ties, and then you have this band, musically and inspiration-wise. Though the compositions on "The Nether Hell" shows a mature band, which have both the needed musical skills and a bit more and the right song-writing tools.

We are offered all from up-tempo straight ahead thrash, where one can't help to 'bang the head like crazy, to slower more profound death and thrash metal, with good melodies, to Slayer-alike leads and atmospheres, when they are at their darkest. A good blend of the old and best, with some newer influences, without the band loosing control over the music, Scars has found their niche in brutal thrash, and spices it up with some very good and listenable elements. Most of the guitar work is really good, the drumming is punishing, the bass hard-hitting and the vocals fierce and straight in your head!

This is a good disc for all into thrash, a bit of it all is present, in a aggressive and well-written manner. The 6 tracks are enjoyable and demands many hours of listening, there are traces of this and that, I won't deny that, though it has been a while since I've heard metal delivered as enthusiastic and energetic as this. With a little bit of luck "The Nether Hell" will become a thrash-maniacal classic within 10 years or less!
