The thrill of throwing new material from the Swedish crustcore merchants Driller Killer, in or on the player, is always connected with excitement. When the band is at its best, the music rips and tears one apart, and leaves one back, shredded to pieces, but hungry for more, and I of course always hope that is what I get, when I throw that new album or 7" on/in the player.
Just the title of the album and the cover artwork, both the front and back turned me on, we were back at the horror inspired artwork once again and the song titles seem aggressive as well. And as soon as the first tones emerge from the speakers, an aggressive hell-fest is started. Angry and heavy guitar riffs rips and tears in the ears, the raw punky edge is all over the place, the crunchy but garage-like guitar tone eats the mind, and won't leave one alone, the guitars are all over the place, they sound good and delivers great and catchy riffs. The heavy and noisy bass is just below the guitars and is audible most of the time and it both sounds good and delivers some good rumbling. The drumming is straight forward, wicked beats, good fills and some good breaks here and there, the paces are good and works well on the music, the toms get a good beating all the time and that among other things keep the listeners attention nailed. The vocals from Cliff is as always aggressive, obnoxious and straight in your face, you can't escape them, even if you wanted. They compliment the music and expression of Driller Killer perfectly.
This is the best album from Driller Killer in a while, and that's quite good as the band has been delivering very stable and hard-hitting music throughout their career. This is their 7th full length album, and the band is as angry and pushy as ever, the music and compositions sounds as fresh as when the band started and is just as alive, kicking and catching. The great mix of straight ahead hard rock, aggressive punk and grind-influences work really well for Driller Killer, now go and check the album out and 'bang your head off and grind your neighbours out of this world!
