This new album, is the third from the quite noisy and brutal Australian death/grinders from The Berzerker. Once known as the fastest, and perhaps most relentless band around, and even though the band still is fast, brutal and relentless as fuck, the compositions have become more well-weighed and mature.
The show kicks off as expected, The Berzerker as we know, and love or hate them, to get the cards on the table from the beginning, it is a hit or miss band. Heavy guitars rips off their riffs, often straight ahead, at other times disharmonic and disturbing. The bass is very heavy as well, and does most of the time keep the rhythm in a stone cold and tight grip, though when it once in a while overpowers the guitars, it sounds pretty damn good.
The dual vocal attack is working well and as intended, as always one is tempted to say. We have the traditional guttural growl and the more far out burped/puked bastard of a growl, to take the sick atmosphere over the top. The samples and noise within the music brings an eerie wickedness and uncomfortable atmosphere at times, very nice. The insane drumming fits the just as insane compositions and invoked atmospheres as well. It ranges from slow to insanely and impressing fast. Though a lot of the time the sound is heavily processed or a drum-computer is being used, and it all doesn't sound too well, even though it actually fits the world of The Berzerker.
It is a pretty good album the mad Australians here has made. It's a real treat for fans of over the top sick and brutal music, while most others likely will be disgusted with what they hear, but that is this band in a nutshell. They do what they want and like to do the unexpected, which brings us to why my bile is boiling, even though I find the album very good. Because after a bit of silence, we are treated the last track. A bit below 20 minutes of stoner rock-like slow and dreamy lucid music, which loops every some amount of time. Certainly unexpected, but damn useless and it kinda ruins the final impression of the album. One is waiting and waiting for the climax that never appears. And instead of leaving one ignited, like after the normal dose of The Berzerker, one is left sleepy and bored behind. The first impression is important, though the same goes for the last impression, which is burned into the mind as well.
