Raw, straight ahead no-nonsense heavy metal is what German Gun Barrel delivers. It is nice to stumble across such albums once in a while, just to kick back, open a beer and nod the head back and forth to the powerful rhythms while singing along with the captivating vocalist.
Good and effective songwriting is the alpha and omega of this album, the compositions drags the listener close and keeps the attention in a tight grip. Not that the music is very original, many riffs and parts sounds like elements from other songs, though the context in which they are used here, makes it good and it works well. Though it's not rehash the whole way through, the musicians in the band are good, and there are very good leads and solos here and there, and good riffs as well. The powerful and to the point drumming is good as well, and the bass is rumbling just below the wall of guitars and are often showing its face above. The production of the album is actually good and powerful. It is the 2 well-known gentlemen Piet Sielck and Yenz Leonhardt who have produced the album, and they have left much space for all the instruments, made it pretty clear and powerful, together with they have kept a very raw rock n' rollish edge.
This is the perfect soundtrack for a rock n' hellish night in the sign of beers and good music. The music is very driven and captivates all within hearing distance of it, the good AC/DC grooves and hooks catches on like hell, and doesn't let go, until the album stops spinning. The great, raw though still emotional at times vocal, is also hooking and addictive, this is some very good straight forward heavy metal Gun Barrel has delivered, and the rock n' roll they mix in it, adds the last spice that makes the album good and very lasting, this is an album for good times and good easy going music. The rawness of the music does also once in a while bring memories of Motörhead into the game, take a listen to 'Dear Mr. Devil'.
