The Norwegian band is now ready with their fourth album, and I would be very surprised if they had changed anything else than the label, since their last release "Mørke Gravers Kammer". It didn't take many tunes of Khold's second album "Phantom" to realize that they had found their style and sound and would stick to that.

The first thing that comes to mind when listening to the new album, is the production, it is going back to the roots, so to say. After the quite polished and very heavy production on "Mørke Gravers Kammer", the band has now returned to a thiner, more raw, black metal-sounding production, and to be honest, that fits the musical output of Khold so much better. Though the more black metal sounding production, doesn't compromise the quality of the sound, and there are left a lot of space to the instruments, and they are all coming strong through the sound picture. Musically the new release is also more interesting that the last effort. The compositions are colder, darker and more atmospheric, really captivating at first and keeps on growing. A perfect soundtrack for the coming winter nights, with its haunting guitar tone, the huge bass there is present all the time and all over the place. The groovy yet driving drumming from Sarke, and the grim rasping from Gard, which is delivered slow as always and very well pronounced, so he can be understood almost all the way through the album.

This is one of the best albums Khold so far has made, the song writing displayed on this album is really strong and mesmerizing. I'm not sure if this beats "Masterpiss Of Pain", since that album still stands very strong in my universe. Though the raw and cold production on this album, still displaying all the music and giving a lot of room to all the instruments and make all sound very good albeit still raw as hell. The music is also more hard hitting and is easy to remember, due to all the great hooks. This is a sure hit for Khold fans, a very lasting cold and atmospheric album, with a great melancholic feel.
