Hailing from Sweden comes Evildoer, a relatively new band which was formed in 2004. Shortly after recording their demo they were picked up by Scarlet Records and the end result is this, their debut album and it is called "Terror Audio". And that is exactly what it is. They play a mix of newer style thrash and melodic death which they have labelled terror thrash. The songs are hard hitting with neck breaking drumming and a myriad of guitar notes that float above the rest of the instruments. But with this being said the band does not add any new elements to the tried and true melo-death/thrash formula.
Evildoer consists of vocalist Andy Solveström who is also a member of Within Y, guitarists Johan Olsson and Martin Bergman, bassist Simon Frödeberg, and drummer Agge "Bones" Johansson. Andy's vocal delivery is monotonous and becomes boring upon repeated listening, it seems as he relies too much on sounding like those who have influenced him. The rest of the band sounds rather tight but do become sloppy once in a while, perhaps all they need is time to sort this out and become a more solid unit.
The album was reportedly recorded within a week but the sound quality has not been diminished much by this. The sound lets you hear how good the musicians in Evildoer are, each one plays his instrument with force and energy. Although at times it seems as some instruments are drowned out by others. Perhaps if more time were spent on the recording and mixing this could have been avoided. If only they would add more spice and originality to their sound the tracks would be more memorable.
Fans of the swedish melo-death/thrash style will probably adore this, but I would like something more than what I've heard a lot of bands that came before Evildoer do. This is not a bad album, just one that have been done before. All bands grow and evolve, hopefully Evildoer will get a hold on a more distinct sound they can call their own as time goes by.
