I didn't know what to expect upon my first listen to Poland's Lost Soul, anxiously I pushed play and what poured from my speakers was brutal death metal that will tear your world asunder. The quartet mix old school brutality with technical tempo shifts and awesome riffing. The end result will leave you satisfied but still wanting more once the last song ends.

The song structures are interesting, the guitars played by Jacek Grecki and Piotr Ostrowski weave in and out through the other instruments and attack you from all angles. The riffs are pulverizing and intense and the solos are frenzied yet melodic. Lost Soul has managed to meld brutal death guitar work with blackened-death riffage. The vocals of Jacek Grecki also mix low end growling and roaring and a black metal like scream to good effect. Rounding out the remainder of the band is bassist Damian Czajkowski and drummer Adam Sierzega whose crushing blastbeats and fast double pedal work lay the perfect foundation for these songs to be built upon. All nine tracks are skull crushing and blindingly fast, they are in your face but also offer up heavy guitar grooves mixed into the viciousness.

The production is high quality and clear. The band sounds tight and the instruments compliment each other as they should. The members of Lost Soul are definitely proficient at their instruments and know just what they want from them and how they would like them to sound. It's sad that I'm just now hearing this great band since they have been around for 14 years, I know for sure I'll be checking out their earlier albums and keeping an eye on their future as well.
