The Eagles Of Death Metal is quite a misleading moniker, for this disc contains no death metal and nothing that sounds like The Eagles whatsoever. But this is not a bad thing because contained within this album is a heap of fun, energetic, and original rock n' roll songs that will stay in your head for good.

The Eagles Of Death Metal is a sideproject that includes Queens Of The Stone Age's Josh Homme, who plays drums on this release and goes by the alias Carlo Vo Sexron, and Jesse Hughes who provides the guitar and vocals and goes by the name J Devil Huge. The album was recorded in three days all in the name of fun and their fun carries over to you as you are listening. Opting for a style that sounds almost like a classic garage rock band, but stripped down leaving only the elements, that are needed to make simple and catchy songs that are full of hooks.

The disc is laced with humour, most notably in the lyrics to 'Whorehoppin' (Shit Goddamn)'. The track 'Midnight Creeper' has almost a folk tale feel to it as the lyrics of someone coming through your window and slitting everyone’s throats are played out. They even cover the 1973 Stealers Wheel song 'Stuck In The Middle' but here it is tongue-in-cheekly renamed 'Stuck In The Metal' and is played by the Eagles Of Death metal boys with style and flair that will have you singing along.

The production sounds like a good demo tape at times, filled with false starts and breaks where you can hear Hughes and Homme discussing parts of the songs. This rawness of the recording suits it and lends character to the songs overall .You should approach this album with an open mind if you are thinking of buying it just based on Homme's other bands and projects for The Eagles Of Death metal does not contain any of the heaviness that those bands do.
