This is the debut EP from this rather new Finnish band. The band was formed in 2004 and has been working hard on their material since then and is now ready with this release containing 5 tracks of thrashy yet modern metal.
The base of the music is in melodic thrash, there are the occasional good riff, even though much sounds like the have been used before in other contexts. The drumming is groovy, but a driving force and a big reason for the music not to die and get too boring. It's not the music at such there are boring, I blame the rather dull and sleep-invoking production and mix. The guitar doesn't have the needed drive and punch, the drums come much better through the sound picture. The vocals are a bit deep in the mix as well, and drown once in a while, especially when the band uses electronic elements. Take a listen to 'Dead Tears Me'. You hear the electronic elements, the drums, the guitar and then the vocals, when it gets crowded. Not that big of a deal, the half-growled, half-talked vocal, isn't that good and interesting. It is raw and becomes pretty good when the singer, tries to make it melodious, but besides that it is too monotonous and is lacking emotion and energy, it sounds like he is holding back, instead of screaming with full power, quite a shame.
Melodic thrash with a modern groovy element, a blend of old and new metal, as such it works, but gets a bit boring as time goes. The album isn't very lasting, especially due to the reasons mentioned above, but many of the song structures seems alike as well. Though this is the bands first release and there is for sure something to work on, the band does have some interesting ideas and it will be fun to hear how Thousand Years will develop.
