A new Swedish maniacal thrash force is on its way to mark themselves on the scene. The band Subcyde is now ready with their second demo, which contains 4 tracks that will enter your head like a pneumatic drill. Their first demo that was released last year, didn't do much for me, but damn it is nice to hear how the band has developed and how powerful they have become.
The compositions are heavy, groovy and ridden with anger. I am not a big fan of name dropping, but think a lethal mix of Testament and Pantera. The guitar riffs goes from the melodic yet straight ahead riffing á la Testament, to groovy and pounding riffs as Pantera made famous. There are some good riffs present, and they are very effective, they grip the listener and force the neck to move. The drumming isn't too special, it's there and does its work, and it drives the songs forward with a nice pace. The pace shifts and drum breaks do work well though. The vocals are pretty good, a varied an effective and earpiecing cross of a scream a vicious growl. It works well, though a bit more emphasis on the screaming wouldn't have scared me off. The pronunciation of the words and pace of the vocal are good, so it's possible to catch much of the lyrics.
This is a band all you thrash freaks out there should start to watch, they'll someday hit it. Good and catchy song writing, even though it isn't groundbreaking, good and captivating grooves and sheer power. The band does also understand to incorporate dark moods into their music, as the track 'Sacred Scars' shows. The sound on this demo is also pretty good, powerful and heavy as fuck and that suits the music very good. A bit more original song writing and the same straight ahead heavy approach to the music, then there'll wait a record deal around the corner, in this time of groovy metal, this thrashy bastard of modern metal should be the shit. Both of the band's demos can be fetched off their site, though get the real deal, the CD version sounds somewhat better and more powerful than the mp3 files!
