German EverEve is back with a new record, the follow up to 2003's ".Enetic". They are still following the path of dark and melancholic sounding gothic rock bordering to dark 80ties synth-pop á la Depeche Mode. Quite a special style and path the German band has chosen, but at times very interesting and intriguing as well. Bleak mesmerizing spheres, cold industrial sounding guitar riffs, and melodic melancholic leads. Percussion-like rhythm work the most of the time, mostly the drums are used as keeping the rhythm going and tight, together with the bass. Even though, both the drummer and the bassist once in a while show their skills.

The album is pretty interesting vocal-wise. The main vocal are a clean male voice, and he sings rather good, and the vocal does very much have a smell of the grandness of the 80ties synth-pop scene. That's the one thing which pops up in my head again and again when listening to this album. There are also used more aggressive variations of the vocal, and once in a while a somewhat whiny nu-metal/emo reminding variation, the latter doesn’t work that well in my opinion.

The compositions are well made, they are pretty catchy, and the band has made some good hooks, which catch on from the start. Together with the good structures, the band incorporates some nice electronically elements, which spices the tunes up a bit, and brings more life into the, at times quiet songs.

This album is special and don't speak to the normal metalhead, fans of more quiet gothic rock can might be on this wagon, but I guess a Depeche Mode fan or 2 will dig this release as well. When this is said, the music tends to die a bit once in a while, due to too many effects, breaks or ups and downs, the songs simply loose momentum. But this is a nice album to relax too and enjoy on a quiet and dark evening.

Rating: 6½/10
