A new thrashing force has risen from the wastelands of California, this time the horde of Artillery Hell, which has cast their first merciless demo upon our doomed souls.
The riffing is heavy and thrashing, a bit blackened influences are shining through once in a while, and makes it more exciting. There are some good melodic leads, that doesn't get too nice, they are kept in the US thrash vein, just as the riffing, and that is killer. There are a couple of ripping solos as well, nice to hear such. The bass is rumbling and present in the soundpicture all the way through, that is killer, especially when one likes the thundering of the bass as much as I do, the bass lines are also okay, mostly keeping the rhythm tight, though it strays off once in a while, to show some teeth, more of that please! The drumming delivers blasting doublebass attacks, furious attacks on the ears and more laidback mid-tempo drumming, suiting the rhythms and songs.
The compositions are a nice blend of old styled US thrash and inspirations from black metal and dark death metal. It works really well with the technical inputs and the at times cold melodic leads, together with the smashing straight ahead thrashing. Some of the riffing and some of the melodies have been heard before, though Artillery Hell manages to make their own sound and their own more or less stand out niche. The vocals are a bit funny at times, it actually works well in this universe, but at times the screamed vocals makes me think of Dani Filth, it sounds inappropriate, but it do work well. Not a bad vocal performance at all.
This is a great demo release from a band that surely will get a good future, I'm actually quite surprised that any label hasn't picked up the band yet, though it might come with the next demo, if it keeps the quality of this one. This goes for all thrashing maniacs out there, old school thrash mixed with modern elements, like all the break downs in 'Necropolis' and inspirations from a couple of other genres, a well made bastard-spawn which kicks ass and makes the neck move!
