Time for a Germanic thrash attack of the vicious kind. The long running thrash act Desaster are ready with their new album "Angelwhore", their first on Metal Blade Records. A nice break for them, after they have been haunting the underground for many years and delivered some good albums.

Typical old school thrash with a blackened edge. A really raw and uncompromising sound and straight ahead madness. Much of the riffing is straight ahead, just as the compositions. Though the band use many melodies, many of them black metal inspired, and it works pretty well and makes a more complete sound. The music is catchy, even though it's ridden with ugliness. The vocals are more or less puked out of the speakers, and the music is pretty sleazy, but that it how we like our blackened thrash.

The music and the way of writing is a strange mix of old and new. The things are blended well together and the final outcome is a wholesome most of the time, though at times it all seems a bit odd.

I have had a hard time to review this album, there are many good things on it, though there are something odd about it as well. The sound is charming, loud and very old school like. That sound works very good together with the music. The vocals fit the universe of Desaster as well, and work together with the music. Good riffs and good melodies, after all a pretty good album. I don't think a single thrash head could imagine a day without this album, after the first listen… someday these German's will have the same legacy as Destruction, Kreator and Sodom!
