There seems like there is no end to the talent coming from Sweden. This is The Duskfall's 3rd release, but my first encounter with them. They are delivering a heavy, dark and atmospheric mix of thrash and death metal, spiced up with a lot of melodies.
The music catches on to one due to the dark and enchanting atmospheres. Heavy and well-considered tunes with many elements, there isn’t many dull moments on "Lifetime Supply Of Guilt". The riffs are heavy and varied, mostly thrashy and neck-breaking. The guitar tone has a very raw edge and gives an attitude to the music. The drumming is interesting and varied as well. The drummer knows how to make his play interesting, stand out and still keep it within the spectre of the music. The vocals are very aggressive and in your face, and they are a part of this album lasts. Together with the at times aggressive guitar riffs and straight forward parts.
The sound on the album is dark, a bit too dark perhaps. Especially when the music gets really complex, it all gets muddy and some details gets lost on the sound picture. That's a shame, but a price to pay with such a dark and heavy sound. Though when there aren’t that many elements at play at once, the sound is kick ass and supplies a great bottom for the atrocities from The Duskfall. But a very typical Daniel Bergstrand production with the soft edges, raw guitar sound and edgy in your face vocals.
This will be one of the highlights of this year, for fans of melodic thrash with death metal elements. For the rest of us, it is a strong album, which might will become a bit too hard to listen to, due to the sound. The music and effort from the musicians are good, but if you aren't into atmospheres and are more into straight ahead brutality all the time, avoid this. This is built on dark emotions and they are displayed, so the listener can feel them.
