Swiss powerful heavy metal is what we get from Godiva. This is the band's second album, their first self titled debut was released back in 2003. Since then the band has replaced their old vocalist with Fernando Garcia, some of you might remember him from Victory.
There isn't that much to say about the music. Pretty straight forward heavy metal, heard many times before. The compositions are as such alright, powerful and somewhat catchy. There are some okay guitar play here and there, though the most of the shredding is pretty standard, it works, but isn't that exciting. The rhythm section is tight and effective. The beats do their work, though there isn't that much exciting about the drumming, the double bass drum attack once in a while, is about it. There are many good melodies along the way, the band really knows how to work with that area.
The vocals are pretty good, powerful and emotive. It is more or less on the same level as the music most of the way through the album, like it is being kept in awe by the production. I think it would have worked better, if it would have gone higher and wilder, it would no matter what have made the album a bit more interesting.
The album is not bad at all, it is just pretty much what we can expect from a heavy metal album from the area anno 2005. The production is kinda dull, it's made by Achim Köhler, and he usually makes some kick ass sounds. Though fans of heavy metal will most likely enjoy this album. Check the album out and start with the tracks 'When Lightning Strikes' and 'Only Heaven Know', that is my faves, even though the latter sounds very familiar with something I can't pinpoint.
