This band and release came as a surprise for me. I don't know in which cave I have had my head stuck, but Desecration hailing from Wales, are clearly one of the longer running and more legendary death metal acts from Britain. I can't really blame other than myself, for not discovering this band before now.
The Welsh trio delivers very brutal and hard hitting death metal. Heavy, grinding and straight in your face. The pace is well varied, there are lot of heavy parts and just as many blast beats, that rips off your head. The guitar work on this album is amazing, there are of course the usual heavy death metal riffing, grinding and brutal, but not much new about that. Though the band tends the use some powerful and crashing leads that makes it very listenable. The drumming is powerful, all from mid-tempo double bass slaughter, to furious blast beat abuse of the snare drum. The high light is the hell bound growl filled with wrath and anger. Damn the growl sounds good, and tops of the great song writing of the band.
Desecration delivers some of the best straight ahead death metal compositions I have heard for a while, and damn it feels good to blast this and bang away. The song writing is clever and on the same time very brutal, but still quite catchy with a lot of great hooks. The production on the album is heavy and deep and the music is pushed forward with sheer power. The drum sound is a bit troubling at times though, I can't find out if its heavy processed or delivered by a drum computer at times, anyways it sounds great and the drumming is punishing.
A really good death metal album that these 3 guys have delivered. It is filled with gore and blood, there is nothing left behind on that account. The guest grunts delivered by Amputated vocalist Morbid Marc is indeed great, and I could see him share the vocal duties with Ollie for an entire Desecration album, that would be killer. But for now we'll have to settle with the 2 tracks 'Black Putrefaction' and 'Butyric Fermentation', which is satisfying as well. This is an album you have to own if you’re into blood-drenched death metal, this is quite a surprise and quite an album!
