This Belgian band is one of the names that have circled in the underground for such a long time, and I still haven’t gotten around to check out. That has now changed with their third full length album "The Process Of Elimination" due on Relapse Records.
Leng Tch'e, which by the way means death by a 1000 cuts, delivers a pure grindcore assault. Blasting beats, grinding guitars and angry as hell vocals. The compositions on this album are very strong. Powerful and straight in the face, there isn’t shown much mercy. Though the band does use some great melodies, some killer hooks and some very well executed breaks. There is ton of smashing blastings parts that leaves you behind with a broken skull, but also a lot of catchy riffs, that makes you bang your head. Besides that there is the killer track 'Pimp', where there are great organ and a psychedelic stoner rock atmosphere. Leng Tch'e does have a lot of different strings to both use and abuse.
At times the vocals are the turn off when speaking of grindcore and grindcore related genres. Though in the case of Leng Tch'e, it’s the opposite. All the high pitched and energetic screams, the growled bile and the more hardcore oriented out-lash of anger works perfectly and blends in or add to the overall musical universe of the band.
The production on the album is really sharp, cuts like a razorblade and leaves nothing but breathless bangers behind. The guitars stand out and the sound of the drums are punishing, even though they might be a tad too dominating at certain points.
Of all the great grindcore attacks I’ve heard lately this one really stands out. The Belgians have found their own niche and delivers hard hitting and really diverse metal. The music is so driving, catches on to one immediately and makes it hard to sit still. This is one of those albums that have to be owned, and I’ll be surprised if this album in 15 years from now, doesn’t have the same status as Terrorizer's "World Downfall" has today!
