Lofofora - Les Choses Qui Nous Dérangent
Release: 2005Label: Sriracha Sauce/wagram Music
Lofofora was formed in France in 1989 and are now ready with a new album. "Les Choses Qui Nous Dérangent" was released in April, in a limited digipack version. The album is not as groovy as we before have heard from the band, the riffs and rhythms are more in your face, on these 14 new and powerful tracks. Reuno has once again made some damn good lyrics (all of them are in French), and they are quite engaged and provocative. Besides that his singing is reaching new and higher levels on this release. This album has a much more punk/hardcore approach in comparison to the band's prior releases, but the band has still kept the unique Lofofora trademark, they deliver an unqiue and raw fusion of many styles.
The album opens with 'Les Choses Qui Nous Dérangent', the lyric is great, and both the riffs and the drumming are heavy, this French hardcore act is back. On 'Rien Au Monde' the voice is filled with rage, the guitar is powerful, a good track as well with a nice break on the bass at the end of the song. 'Accélère' follows and it has a damn nice atmosphere, the rythm section rocks and the riffing is simple but good as hell.
We are introduced to a different tempo on 'Enfant Du Chaos', the vocal line is almost spoken, groovy song even if the riffing is hard during the whole track and aerial on the chorus, for sure a nice one. 'La Peur Du Vide' is kinda slow and Reuno's voice is in a way melodic. It is followed by 'Le Pire' which is faster with a punkish attitude and the singing is filled with hatred and rage. The groovy bass solo is killer, it rocks as hell!
What happens with 'Rock N'Roll Class Affair'? This is a duo with DJ Tag Off (who?), the rythm here is real hip-hop, rap singing all the way and a drum n'bass part closes the song. A difficult track to listen to.
On 'Mea Culpa' the trademark sound of Lofofora is recognizable, damn good track with good riffing, present bass and both the drumming and guitar are on the edge. Brilliant track. There is a nice intro on 'Humide Song', the bass is heavy and the guitar solo is catchy. The lyrics are almost vulgar, but again Reuno's use of the french language is impressive.
'Quelqu'un De Bien' has some resignation in the sense of the lyrics, a mix between spoken words and some rap rythmics in the vocals, it still rocks. The guitar riffing is loud, the bass is again very present and the drumming excellent. It is followed by 'L'Eclipse', which starts off with a beautiful bass intro and a howling guitar in the back. The lyric is again very good. The Vocal line is more of a spoken word vocal, but in a melodious way. Impressive guitar, present bass for this mellow but nice song.
'Aveugle Et Sourd' is heavier, not fast but has groovy guitar riffing, the whole track is well constructed and has a nice melody. The next one is a hard hitting song, 'Mondiale Paranoïa' is pure Lofofora hardcore with punk attitude. A fast and short good track, it will for sure be hell of a Live track!
The album closes with 'Buvez Du Cul'. This track has a punk approach and is perfect for a party, besides that the lyrics are damn funny.
Lofo is back, even though they never left and... they will damn sure stay in the french metal scene for a long time!
