Biomechanical was for me an unknown band, until this album was dropped in my mailbox. Apparently the British quintet is one of the bright hopes of the future over there on the isles, and well, I might have to agree after having spent a lot of time, listening to the album.

How to explain the sound of Biomechanical, that’s a rather complex matter. They are delivering quite a hybrid of heavy thrashy riffs and structures, blistering guitar leads and low powergroove elements. A modern and not as aggressive and angry form of Pantera might be fitting. That angel seems very obvious, when the singer breaks out and sounds a lot like a calm Phil Anselmo. Though that is only one of the faces he has, he offers a wide range of vocal performances, and seems to be a chameleon. The vocals aren’t that outstanding, but they are solid and get the job done, but seem a bit too cold at times. They are at times pretty low in the mix and drowns a bit between the heavy and crushing guitars,

The music is crushing and most of the used elements work fine. Though at times it seems like the band is blending a bit too much, on the same time, and one can lose focus. The most interesting about the album, is the at times great guitar work, aggressive, heavy and good leads and solo work… Modern heavy aggro-thrash mixed with classic sounding heavy metal elements. The compositions are pretty well made too, even though they once in a while become a bit too messy, and the inspirations shine too much through. There are also incorporated some nice synth work and samples here and there.

Who does this album speak to? All who have been intrigued by the ramblings above, fans of heavy hardcore driven thrash, industrial noise elements, Pantera-esque moshing, striking solo work. Yeah you have to give this album a good listen before taking it home. The path Biomechanical has entered is exciting and there many good elements on this album. I guess this is one of the bands we can expect a lot of in the future.
