This is the debut album from this Austrian band, which has quite a history. The core of the band Mario Klausner and Werner Freinbichler, have been the center of the bands Scent Of Paradise and Pathetic, which Collapse 7 is the continuation of. Mario has played with Belphegor and Pungent Stench and both are a part of Hollenthon’s live line-up. Now 12 years after the 2 formed their first band Scent Of Paradise, they are ready with “In Deep Silence” as Collapse 7.
They are offering death metal with many nuances. All from straight ahead, downtuned brutality to more technical and atmospheric parts, and some melodic work now and then. It is obvious that the band has struggled with the song writing and has tried to come up with something original. Even though this album might be different than some of the other death metal albums released today. Is that what makes a good album? Not in my opinion, a lot of the elements Collapse 7 are using, are typical for the style. Besides that are the pace and momentum very often ruined with unnecessary breaks and superfluous details.
The effort from the musicians are acceptable and the vocals are ranging from okay to rather boring. It is hard to find or discover something that wants me to keep on listening to this album. I get bored rather quick, often too fast. Though if you are on the search for some heavy death metal, with some different paces, some doomy atmospheres, nice melodies and a bit of sheer brutality, mashed up in a strange mix, then you might like Collapse 7.
