Audrey Horne - No Hay Banda
Release: 2005Label: Dog Job / Tuba Records
As a Twin Peaks freak and David Lynch fan, I first expected to hear something really strange and chaotic in the same mood of the films of the above mentioned film director, when I first heard about the band Audrey Horne. Well is it as chaotic and strange then? Not at all but for sure as good.
Audrey Horne is another norwegian super group with members from the extreme scene, from bands as Enslaved and Gorgoroth, but here is no talk of viking or black metal at all. This album contains eleven tracks of infectious great heavy/hard rock/punk/gothic tunes with riffs that stick in your mind long after the record has ended, great keyboards melodies and the singer shows a wide range of vocal capacities.
There is a real attitude on this album. The opening track 'Dead' has a lot to offer, from keyboards to great riffs. The mid tempo 'Listening' is cool as hell, 'Get a Rope' is a faster track and stays well in your brain, 'Death Horse' has some of the Faith No More atmosphere in the keyboard sound, 'Confessions & Alcohol' is also mid tempo with great guitar licks. The follower 'Candystore' is a nice track with a catchy chorus. 'Blackhearted Vision' has a more punkish feeling and simply kick ass. 'Bleed' has something dramatic both in music and lyrics, catchy one. 'Crust' has something of Mike Patton in the voice and the song is damn cool as well. 'Weightless' has a heavy riff, a mystic feeling and a fresh guitar solo. The album ends with the enormous 'The Sweet Taste of Revenge', great lyrics, amazing voice again, a solid bass line, great guitar riffs, superb keyboards too, not to forget the great drumming, to build up one of the best tracks on this brilliant debut album.
Audrey Horne’s song writing gives "No Hay Banda" a unique strength, something really refreshing with many catchy tunes, I would simply say all of them.
Give their album a listen and you will never forget Audrey Horne, Twin Peaks fan or not. It is as simple as that.
