Scorched Earth Tactics - Blastradius
Release: 2005Label: Kuolio Studios
From Tampere, Finland, formed in 1996, Scorched Earth Tactics has a previous promo CDr and a rehearsal tape out. Though what interests us today is their latest EP, entitled "Blastradius" out through their own Kuolio Records. What they have come out with, is a unique and something they can call their own brand of metalcore.
Scorched Earth Tactics is fresh, heavy, fast and has many beautiful melodies on this release, and I'm pretty sure they will soon rise on top. There’s something special on this EP that will separate them from the countless horde of other metalcore acts. They have probably more good ideas than other bands in the same vein. Many good moments here, from the drumming to impressive guitar riffs and melodies and a real good and aggressive voice.
This EP starts with the 2,50 minutes 'Lambs', intense guitar riffing at start, aggressive voice, fast drumming and the solo in the middle of this track is brilliant. Followed by 'Defiance' with a nice guitar intro and then hell is unleashed until there comes a great jazzy/funky break, then it continues with really fast and ends in a great guitar outro. 'Futile Struggle' is a raw and fast track, really intense and crawls directly into the highlight of this EP 'Italian Strike'. It starts as 'Futile Struggle' ends, which means fast and then comes a wonderful melodious break on guitar, really emotional and fades slowly out. A great moment, a song that stays in mind long after the song is over. Last song is 'Blastradius', many weird combinations fills this track which gives a really special feeling.
Well, I really got stuck on this release which got the capability to stay in my head. A great and interesting release, but still, I'm pretty sure that Scorched Earth Tactics hasn't reached yet their whole potential which will probably be explored on their next release, which I hope will be released really soon and of course be a great full lenght album.
