Impure Wilhelmina is back with their third full lenght after 2003's great "I Can't Believe I Was Born in July" and a new line-up.
Eleven new songs of dark & introspective metallic hardcore, that's the trip they invite us to discover. A large panel of emotions, violent and vicious beauty, heavy walls of riffs and subtle songs structures. All the way through the album they bring us on a path filled with melancholy, rage and darkness. Here we can talk of rude emotions. Very intense both musically and on the singer's side. Yes, Michael shouts, spits his intense lyrics and then comes out with beautiful melodies really well placed and all through the album there is a feeling, a dark veil that keeps the listener with wide open ears. Really good compositions, nicely arranged and so damn well executed. Bloody riffs, present bass, good drumming and the whole sound on this album is very intense, almost live!
It starts with 'January', slow drumming tempo and nice guitar melodies, a mix between hardcore and doomy kind of music. 'Tense' follows with a faster beat,'The Black Flame' has wonderful guitar melodies, 'Bleed Alone' follows. Then comes 'Seeds', the vocal line is thin and melodic and the bass line filled with atmosphere, it get's more and more intense until it hits your face. 'The Broken Wing Of The Undying Bird' is much faster with a nice break on clean guitar just to lift the song to an emotional end. Spoken word on 'Before A Dream' and nice melody. A slow and nice song. The vocals on this one makes me think of Eddie Vedder! 'Sunburst' follows with heavy guitars and rocking drums. 'Diaspora' is mean, both musically and lyrically. A great melodic and accoustic guitar starts on 'Everything Is Pain But You' and soon fades away to give room for some heavy rocking riffing and sharp vocals, just great. The trip ends with the enormous 'A Man In The Light'.
Listen to it, take the time to enter into it and appreciate all of its dark sides. I will simply abuse it. Also to mention is the great booklet within the CD release and the huge double LP is damn beautiful.
