Bloodride - Bloodridden Disease
Release: 2004Label: Self released
This rather new Finnish force was brought upon humanity in the year 2000. So far they have only released a demo and this mini album, which I am about to write some blessed words about. Bloodride offers old school crossover influenced thrash, and if I didn’t know that this was a new recording, my guess could have been a forgotten band from the late 80’ties.
As soon as the first track kicks off, it is like being taken back in time. The only thing which is making this sound a bit new is the thick sound. It is somewhat better than, the at times thin and “canny” sound from back then. The music could might as well have been made back then, and is most likely that. The band has just arranged the riffs and beats in their own fashion.
It is not the most interesting compositions that Bloodride have made for this release. They all starts out pretty well, but soon become stale and rather boring. They need some aggressiveness and force full ahead. There are also too many melodies and unnecessary breaks. The rather dull and tame production doesn’t help much either. It is more or less holding the music back, instead of kicking it out of the speakers.
There are some nice displays of good metal once in a while, during the 6 tracks on here. Though the tracks do not stand the test of time and becomes too boring too fast. For a slab of old school metal once in a while, Bloodride is okay, but I am really missing some sheer energy in the music. There are some pretty good guitar work, I like the vocal and there are good parts in each track. With some more work, there must be a feature for this band, but until then I’ll stick to my albums from the late 80’ties, they kick way more ass than this.
