This month's featured band is Arcturus. You can here find the history of the band, links to the review of "Sideshow Symphonies", a concert review from the Sonic Solstice Festival, as well as an interview done during the summer in Norway.

Born on the ashes of Mortem, Arcturus was founded by Sverd and Hellhammer. They developed a sophisticated kind of black metal including keyboards, which was kind of unusual at that time.

It has always been a mystical band because they didn't play live until recently. The line-up has changed several times since the begining, but there has always been incredible musicians in that band, like Samoth (Emperor, Zyklon, etc) or former singer Garm (Ulver).

In 1996 they released their first full length release "Aspera Hiems Symfonia", which today is a cult album. Then followed another album "La Masquerade Infernale", which was impressive with its theatrical and experimental mood. Not many black metal bands had included futuristic sounds with cold black metal atmospheres.

"The Sham Mirrors" was relesed in 2002, and followed the path of the earlier albums with the band's search of unique sounds, and the album was immediately accepted by the fans. They even got Ihsahn of Emperor to perform on the track 'Radical Cut'.

Garm left the band and they did some live performances with Øyvind Hægeland (Spiral Architect), and later Simen Hestnæs joined the band as the new singer, he had already sung on "La Masquerade Infernale" album.

In 2005 they recorded "Sideshow Symphonies" at the Mølla studio with their newest members Tore Moren on guitar and vocalist Simen Hestnæs (I.C.S. Vortex).

Many band members play in other bands or side-projects like for example Dimmu Borgir, Mayhem, Winds, Lamented Souls, Carnivora...

They will now be on tour during October in Europe with their mates Red harvest, be sure to catch them somewhere near you.

Check out Arcturus website for a complete history of the band.
