Anubis Gate (pre-show)
Before the band travels to Holland to perform at ProgPower next Saturday, October 1st, they thought it would be best to throw a little concert, to get all things fine-tuned due to the ProgPower gig, being their first live show. So a small "private" concert was arranged for families and friends of the band, I guess there were around 30 people gathered to watch the band rock, and they sure did!

First to the surprise, the band got on "stage" as a 4 piece, and as the sharp reader has figured out, someone in the band must have been missing, and that is correct. The charismatic singer and frontman Torben Askholm is going through some serious trouble with his voice/throat, and isn't allowed to sing for a good while. So the rest of this year bassist and harmony vocalist Henrik Fevre will do all the vocals. He hit it off quite well, there weren't that many parts he couldn't handle, even though he had trouble with managing the highest ranges and some of the more melodious parts, but overall a really good performance from him. Both vocal-wise and bass-wise, damn he handles the 5 strings on his Fender well, powerful and at times aggressive play, with a lot of feel.
The guitar duo of Kim Olesen and Jesper M. Jensen did also deliver shred for all the money worth. The 2 are very dynamic, and while Jesper is the calm player on stage, Kim delivers his parts with all of his body in motion, energetic and emotional playing, and the solos delivered, fast and precise. Someone each fan of ripping guitar playing will enjoy, that's for sure. The drumming delivered by Morten Sørensen was the backbone of the band, keeping it tight and precise, and energetic.

After having witnessed the band's first live performance, even though it was in front of a small crowd, in a small class-room at a music college, it proved that Anubis Gate is ready to conquer Europe, or at least Holland. The energy and will shining from the band, screaming: "We're ready for you, are you ready for us?!?!" was very contagious and nobody in the room could sit still, while the band delivered their music. An experience showing that the band are ready to deliver the goods, you have something to look forward to at ProgPower in Holland and at Aalborg Metal Festival as well… I know can't wait to see them at a "real" stage at the latter mentioned arrangement.
The setlist was as follows:
Intro: Hall Of Two Truths
Downward Spiral
Children Of The Pauper King
Kingdom Come
Future Without Past
