When I first heard about Killaman, the Swedish band that rose after the fall of Murder Corporation. The men behind the slaughter are still Rikard Wermén and Johan Axelsson (both from Deranged), together with Rune Ross from Reclusion, Roger Johansson from Insision and Kasper Larsen ex-Withering Surface. I hooked up with drummer Wermén to get some answers. The interview was conducted right after new years eve 2004.

Hails, how are things in Sweden here around new years eve?

Same shit, different day...

Will you please introduce yourself and tell us why you play metal and how your metal adventure started?

Man, if I only knew... Ha, ha, ha... My "metal adventure"?! The same old shit as for a lot of others I guess. Started to get into bands like Kiss, AC/DC, Motörhead, Iron Maiden etc. etc. At a young age and from thereon got into thrash metal, death metal, grindcore whatever you know...

A small band introduction would also be great, you have had some additions to the band lately, are they final?

To make a long and honestly a pretty boring story short... Killaman pretty much was formed out of the ashes of another band Johan Axelsson and I was in, Murder Corporation. The singer we has at the time quit the band and we eventually hooked up with Rune Foss from Reclusion. Rune started to sing in Murder Corporation and he has more of a thrash voice one can say, at least compared to Johan Anderberg (ex. singer) that had a full scale death growl voice PLUS the new material we was working on wasn't exactly what we used to do with Murder Corp. so it felt it was too much of change to continue under the same name. We split Murder Corporation up and formed Killaman.

Why have you created KillaMan, you are all pretty busy in other bands too, what can you do in KillaMan you can't do in e.g. Deranged?

As mentioned earlier... We thought it was too much of a change to continue under the name Murder Corporation and we wasn't coming anywhere either so... Ha, ha, ha... Personally I would say that it's always fun to try something new, something you haven't exactly been doing the last couple of years...

The music is very harsh and direct with a great punk/rock feel over it, why did the music end up like that?

As usual, we just play and if it sounds cool we'll keep it you know... As for Killaman... I guess we kinda looked back a good 10 years or so at the bands we would be like worshipping back then... All kinds of thrash, grindcore and crustcore acts. Just throw it all in the mix...

What do you want to tell the world with KillaMan?

Nothing special at all really... We're not out to fucking preach or anything.

When reading your song titles, it seems like you have a political message to tell us, is that right?

Nah, I wouldn't go as far and say that Killaman is a "political band" or whatever. At the end of the day, if you ask me "political band" has a sour flavor to it. Mean, if a band is not a straight out gore band or satanic and in some way try to view their opinion on certain matters, it's labelled a "political band".

What is wrong with the world?

Where shall I start?

Which 3 major changes in the world would make it a better place to live?

The human race x 3 = change.

Can you change anything with a metal album?

To the better? I don't think so...

What do you expect from your debut album, the demo was well received, will the album be received well too?

I hope so... I have read a few reviews and they are all pretty good. Mean, the fucking CD sounds more or less exactly like the demo. The production is better though but otherwise. If you enjoyed the demo you'll fucking get into the CD as well.

The members in KillaMan are so to say "Veterans" in the metal world, how do you keep the metal spirit alive and deliver music as fresh sounding and ferocious as you do in KillaMan?

I don't know about veterans... Sounds like a bunch of old fucks man. Ha, ha, ha... Anyway... Can be that we have been into the scene for a while?

How do you get inspired to write music/lyrics these days?

Everything!!! Just about everything...

Any difference from when you started to write music/lyrics?

No, not really...

Which bands/persons inspired you when you started to get into metal/writing music/lyrics?

I guess it was bands like Slayer and Napalm Death really... Especially early Napalm Death. “Scum” had a huge impact on me... I had never heard anything like it.

The band is called KillaMan, why have chosen that name, don't you think it would make a stir in the PC world (by pc I meant political correct, though the question was somewhat misunderstood, Skintrade)?

I do play a lot of "computer games" but only on my Playstation 2. I hardly know shit about games in the PC jungle. Is that a game then or?

The album is recorded in the Berno studios with a great and crushing result, why did you choose that studio, are you satisfied with the result and how long did it take to record and mix the album?

Johan and I have been recording a lot of albums over there through the years. Mean, the Killaman CD is like the 9´th full length or something we did over there, and one must add, at least it feels like thousands of recordings for mini CD's and the likes through the years. It's a killer place!!! Takes me like 20 minutes to drive out to Berno Studio and as said, we have been working a lot with Berno a lot through the years so... I think it took like 10 days or something. Can't remember... Yeah, I'm satisfied. Pretty much turned out the way I wanted it to.

Is KillaMan an active live band, how is it to experience you live?

We haven't done a single gig yet. We're discussing a European tour so we'll see what happens.

Any plans for a tour or any shows planned for Denmark or Aalborg?

Nothing planned for the moment. If someone wants us to come over, drop me a line!!!

Would it be wrong to call KillaMan the Terrorizer of Sweden?

The “World Downfall” LP is fucking killer man but I don't know...

Will you share your 3 all time favorite albums with the Scandinavian metal heads?

I have two all time fave albums... To be honest, to mention three is

hard... Kiss – “Destroyer” and Slayer – “Reign In Blood” are like my all time fave albums, otherwise... Deep Purple – “In Rock”, Napalm Death – “Scum”, Suffocation – “Effigy Of The Forgotten” and Mötley Crue – “Shout At The Devil”...I guess...

Thanks a ton, for answering my questions, feel free to end the interview as you please!

Fuck the mainstream and check out the Killaman CD. Don't download it. MP3's sounds like crap!!!
