Origin

Origin
Hey, how are things right now?
Things are going well now that we are done with our album. We have been waiting awhile to get that all done so we can get back out there and tour again. See the people that we haven't seen in a while.
Will you start off with telling a bit about yourself, why you play metal and how you became a fan of metal music?
I became a fan of metal when i was about 10 years old when I saw the video to 'Betrayer' by Kreator on Headbangers Ball. I have been all fucked up ever since.
You are soon ready with your third full length album, the crushing "Echoes Of Decimation", how do you feel about the album?
It's what we wanted to do. We are glad to have another album out there because it's been a while and we didn't want people to forget about us either. I feel it's a positive step in what we are doing.
Have you received any feedback on the album yet?
I have read 2 reviews so far. One was praising it madly and another said that they basically didn't understand it haha! That it was like a brick wall kicking your ass all over the house ferociously. And he said that was a bad thing!?!?!? haha... so far people either like it or don't understand it.
What do you think are the biggest differences between your last album and the new one?
We have a new guitarist and drummer this time. They fit into the Origin theme very well and have brought their influence to the table. You won't mistake it for any band other than Origin but it’s still different enough to be interesting we hope.
How do you write music and where do you get inspired to write music?
We are inspired by what we see everyday. The world is full of disease and negativity and there is no fucking escape. So we funnel that into our music.
Do you need to be in a particular mood to come up with music?
Sometimes! When I was writing they lyrics for "Echoes Of Decimation" I got writers block... then I would have a drink and watch the news. The news often pisses me off and inspires me a lot. Other times I need no motivation.
What music, bands and albums have meant the most for your musical development and style and have brought you to where you are today?
There are so many I can hardly begin. one of my absolute favorite bands ever was Dark Angel and Gene Hoglan’s lyrics... everyone knows him for his godly drumming, but no one really gives him credit for his lyrics in the "Leave Scars" or "Time Does Not Heal" era of Dark Angel. I think they are some of the best fucking lyrics ever or anywhere! Lyrically I also really like Candlemass (and I know everyone is laughing...) I can't even come close to describing the absolute darkness in those lyrics most of the time. As far as bands that really aren't metal; I listen to the Dead Kennedys a lot. Jello Biafra is very entertaining to me.
You have lost guitarist Jeremy Turner to Cannibal Corpse and drummer John Longstreth since the last album, how has that affected the progression of the song writing and the music of Origin?
I really can't say because they are not here. I guess things would sound a bit different than the actually do now but that’s like speculation on how Metallica would sound if they still had Cliff Burton. Our new guitarist
Clint Appelhanz and our new drummer James King filled their slots very well.
It must have been a hard task to find a replacement for Longstreth and his incredible skills, how many drummers did you try out, before you choose James King?
We only tried out one other drummer, Jeremy Gregg (Murder Construct/Terminal Plan, ex-Enter Self) from Knoxville Tennessee. He was a friend of ours that we met while on tour with Jeremy's old band. I did a small 3 song demo with them (Murder Construct, ed) for fun one week. And when John left we figured we could at least try him out because he is a good drummer and he was willing to try. However, it didn't work out with the schedules and the travel. So we got our long time friend James (who literally lives down the street from us) to practice our shit for a few months and he worked out great.
What do you think about his effort on the new album?
Couldn't have done better considering he has only been playing for about 3 years. And he knew Origin better than most others would because of the proximity to us. He was at every show and at our practice halls often before ever being offered the job. He just works out great. And the motherfucker can play! That’s the bottom line.
How much have the 2 new members James King and Clint Appelhanz contributed to "Echoes Of Decimation"?
They contributed hugely. Clinton is an engineer and worked out most of the recording himself. Plus he wrote the music for about half the songs. Clint was an original member of Origin when he played bass. You have to keep that in mind also. Clint and jams came up with the majority of the drum patterns also. So they both contributed a lot.
Will you tell us a bit about the idea behind the album and some of the lyrical themes?
Well I could go on for hours and try and describe them all. But it will take too long and none of it will make any damn sense anyways! hahaha.... I write about the end of every world that ever was and ever will be. It keeps me busy. The universe is a big place.
I would like to know your thought behind the album title "Echoes Of Decimation" too?
It's a title that Clint had for one of his songs that just happened to become the title track. It was a title that I guess he had for years, a couple, anyways. When he first told me that title, I liked it a lot right off the bat.
Your thoughts behind the cover artwork will be great as well!
It's done by a tattoo artist from Kansas and his name is Robert Black. He has done a lot of tattoos for the old vocalist, Jeremy Turner, James King and a lot of other people also of course. We know him and asked if he would come up with some ideas for art. He did and we picked one.
It seems like Origin has found its own niche in the metal scene, delivering brutal and technical death/grind… how do you look upon your place in the greater whole?
I have no idea. I think we just do what we do and that’s it. We want to crush it all.
What does Origin bring the metal world?
A sense of utter chaos and overwhelming strife.
What do you want to accomplish with Origin?
I have no idea. I think we just do what we do and that's it. We want to crush it all. A sense of utter chaos and overwhelming strife. Seeing the rest of the world and playing for everyone who would appreciate our music.
Will you share your 3 all time favourite albums with the metal heads?
How do 5 sound??
Metallica - Master Of Puppets

Thanks a ton for answering me questions, if you have anything to add, feel free to do it now!
Thanks for paying attention and being interested in what Origin has been doing. There were rumors all over the world that we broke up and the story is about to be set straight! Check out "Echoes Of Decimation" and we hope to see you on tour soon!
