Cattle Decapitation

Cattle Decapitation
Hi there, how are things right now?
OK I guess. We're about to leave for another big tour with Deicide. We're going to get pretty sick of those guys really soon. Hahaha.
You are ready with your new killer album "Humanure", how do you feel about it?
We love it. I listened to it for the first time in months the other day and it kicks ass. I think it's a pretty classic album. I didn't write the music so I don't mind bragging!
What do you expect from it?
Well, we just found out that the cover has to be changed now here in the states and if that's the case hopefully Europe can take it now into the stores. So I really have no idea what to expect as of now.
How has the press so far received it?
Opinions don't really mean shit, of course the reviews are mixed. Everyone tells me they're really good, but I pay more attention to the bad ones, being a total pessimist. I've read some really kick ass reviews though.
What do you want to accomplish with "Humanure"?
I want to fucking go to Europe! And Japan! I'm sick of this US shit!!! We also want people to check it out and realize it's way better than “To Serve Man”.
Did the album turn out as you planned it to?
Nobody can ever get what they planned. But we came really fucking close. We just wanted a kick ass record and we got that, more and on some levels things can still be changed, it's always going to be like that. Very few records are perfect. The budgets just are never there like that.
It sounds like you have tuned the guitars a bit down and made the music a bit darker, why have you choose that?
Well, we're still tuned to the same, E flat. The music is a lot more melodic, that's for sure, which probably makes it darker. It's a darker album in general.
Some of the guitar riffs sounds like the are a bit inspired by black metal, is that correct?
Guitarist Josh Elmore listens to a lot of black metal! We all do, but he has a ton of it. And country and bluegrass.. I think even that influence shows through in his playing sometimes. But yeah, I'm sure some of the stuff he throws in is inspired by black metal.
The album is recorded by legend Bill Metoyer, and he has done a very good job. A dark and suiting sound andespecially the bass sounds great. What do you think about his production?
He's the best. I don't want to record with anyone else ever again. He's amazing. The record only sounds as good as it does because he was there at the helm!
Has Bill Metoyer added anything to Cattle Decapitation?
He opened our eyes to creatively doing little production techniques I guess. That and he just kicked ass on this record.
Again great and provocative artwork from you, what are your thoughts behind the cover artwork on "Humanure"?
I love it. It's being changed though. Too many people saying they can't find the record in stores! Chains flat out won't take it. And I think even independents may be following suit.
The artwork has already been banned in Germany, a lot of great publicity or...?
No it's a big pain in the ass. Now it makes it harder for us to get over there for a good tour.
What's up with the outro, did you visit a slaughterhouse or did you sample a lot of shit?
No, PETA sent us that stuff. It's from a video of a Massachusetts slaughterhouse. It's pretty disturbing. Our old drummer would not have let us do this so we wanted to do it for a long time.
I just saw in your latest newsletter, that you are having a bbq after a meet and greet in Blue Meannie Records, with veggie hotdogs and burgers, why all this veggie stuff?
hahah… Cause meat is disgusting! We're all vegetarians.
Which 5 albums are you listening a lot to right now?
Leviathan - The Tentacles of Whorror
Coroner - Coroner
Devendra Banhart - All
Necrophagist - Epitaph
Brujeria - All
Thanks a ton for answering my questions, the last salutes are up to you!
Thanks a lot! Hopefully we'll see all you guys soon!
