Delusive

Robin Niklasson of Delusive
Hello Robin! Can you start by giving me a background information on Delusive. Who started the band and what is your intention with the band?
Hi there! Well, Delusive was formed the year 2000 by Adam and Tommy. Then Flingan came along. I joined the band at the same time as they decided to change their name from Bügel to Delusive – summer of 2003.
The intention with the band, well… Can't give you a proper answer on that one, but – we like death and thrash metal, and now it's our turn to be on the stage to create fans for this kind of music, so that metal lives on.
What inspires Delusive?
Well, a lot of other bands of course! And if you look at the lyrics they are all filled with suicidal thought, death, chaos, sorrow and so on. And that my feelings really. Since I write all the lyrics my self, I reflect scenarios from my own life. That makes the lyrics both personal and evil.
Can you give me an insight on your lyrics and what topics Delusive care about?
As I said, the lyrics are taken from my own life. And the non-personal songs is basically about all the problems we face everyday.
Delusive have released two demos. Can you tell us a bit about them. Did the demos attract any labels?
We recorded "The Dark Chronicle" during the summer of 2003. The studio was called "Inflammable Solid Studio" and was located next to our rehearsal. It was cheap and it did go fast, but the sound – crappy. So, anyways – we added the songs on several music-sites on the net. And after a while we got mail from two independent record labels in the US. But none of them gave us a good deal, I mean – I don't think we have to pay with our own money to get into a studio? So, screw them. The "Regret" demo was recorded during the end of 2004 in Midtown Studios. The sound is good, and we did our best. And right now we are working on 5 new songs.
Earlier Delusive talked about doing a gig with Johan Lindstrand (The One Man Army And The Undead Quartet,Ex-the Crown). Any update on that matter?
No, not really. But we stay in touch – so when we get a good gig somewhere in Stockholm. I'll give him a call.
How was it like having Anders of The Forsaken producing your new demo EP? Will he assist you in the future as well?
I was kind of nervous just before he came. Since I'm a big fan of The Forsaken, and I've seen them live and stuff. But he really helped us with the sound, and gave us ideas. One example of this is the intro to "My Final Fear". And well, I think he'll do a guestappearance next time.
What's your 3 favourite Delusive songs and why?
'Frozen': Because it is something special about the whole song, the lyrics are nice and the chorus is great as well. It's a big favourite as a live song too.
'Possessed Reflection': Well, I just simply love this song. I remember sitting in the rehears listening to Adam, playing the intro over and over. At the same time as I was writing the lyrics.
'My Final Fear': It's evil –isn't it. Well – that's what I like about it. It is the heaviest song we've ever made, and that's why I like it.
How does the band arrange the music, do you write the tracks
together or do you bring bits and pieces to the rehearsal or?
Adam and Tommy has an idea for a riff. Adam shows the riff to Niclas, and they play it together. Tommy adds the whole drumming part, and I write the lyrics. That's basically how we arrange the songs. Well, sometimes it's different.
What's your view on the current metal scene in Scandinavia or just Sweden in general?
Good question, we got great bands like In Flames, Soilwork, The Forsaken. But in my opinion the metal scene was more alive 10 years ago, especially the death metal scene, back then we hade bands like At the Gates and The Crown. I really hope that bands like Delusive, Canopy and Divine Dominion has a future.
Which 3 bands have inspired Delusive the most?
Well… Delusive is a mix of a lot of things, but personally I think At The Gates, Evergrey and perhaps Nevermore?
Any cool recent Delusive news you want to share with us?
Well, next gig will be at Klubben, and we'll play together with Canopy. And we got a lot of great gigs coming up. Another thing I can tell is that Delusive is currently working on two new songs: 'Parasite' and 'Suicidal Me'.
You feel game to give readers of Scandinavian Metal your top 5 list of albums relreased by bands from Scandinavia only?
